You will be able to specify a number of "blobs" each of which generate a field, like a electrostatic force. The combined field of all the blobs is then used to define an isosurface i.e. a surface of constant field value, which gives you shapes like the blobby thing in the link. Many ray tracers and modellers have metaballs/blobs as a primitive.
