AC3D uses Cartesian coordinates X plane uses airplane co ordinates where X = longitudinal ( roll ) , Y= lateral ( pitch ) and Z = vertical (yaw) . It would be fantastic if AC3D co ords could be set to airplane design mode .
At present front view has z as longdituidinal and shows the back view when importing an obj from planemaker . The result is continual transforms being done in the cranium . The 3D view displays correctly Any ideas on how this can be done . .? |

Update to try and be more clear . The obj is imported correctly but the views ideally could be changed as per attached drawing showing what would be great to have as a selectable option , for creating XPlane models.

AC3D's coordinate system is the same as X-Plane i.e. Y is up.
https://developer.x-plane.com/articl...ft_Coordinates Your diagram shows a coordinate system where Z is up i.e. like Blender and some other 3D packages - mostly CAD. It could be that Planemaker is transforming the coordinates to another coordinate system on saving? in AC3D, use menu Views->Configure-views to choose the individual view angles but note that you can't change the coordinate system used e.g. from right-handed to left. |

Many thanks for responding . My toolchain is solidedge -> .obj exporter -> ac3d . It is at this stage that it would be good to have the views shown as per my stick diagram as , AC3D is used for positioning of the various objects and then applying animations , following which I and by object to plane-maker. First prize is not to rely on Planemaker to position and rotate objects . they should all have zero changes.
In standard AC3D If you look at the front view of the imported OBJ you get the rear view , the top view is the side view etc. I realize this is how AC3D is written but was asking if in a future release there could be an option to show the views as suggested. |

If on importing I rotate Y -90 , followed by Z -90 than the views look as expected but Y is UP and Z is the longitudinal axis and X lateral out to the RHS.
In all aerodynamics and flight mechanics books Y is lateral to right + , Z is up + and X is longitudinal + toward the rear X pane seems to have done their own thing |
