When working on a mesh and you click on an object, the object name is shown in a box in the bottom left of the screen.
BUT, how do you see the material name????? To see the material name (or edit the material properties) I always end up reassigning another material to that object and then do the editing. How do you simply view the material name and then edit it. |

Objects aren't restricted to having single materials so therefore it wouldn't make sense to say what material an object has. The best way to see is to go to surface select mode and click on a random surface. The material name will be shown right below the viewing window.

Thanks Captain, the issue I have is that I need to save to the 3ds file format, and in the 3ds format each material gets turned into an object.
So what I need to do is edit material properties per object. |
