Boolean operations? How?
I see no mention of the new boolean operations in the manual and I can't seem to figure it out on my own. Anyone help me out?

Re: Boolean operations? How?
Yep, it's easy. Just for practice, create a sphere in front view, then create another sphere right beside it. Now take one and move it over till it's a 1/4 of way overlapping the other sphere. Now select one sphere ( object button ) then go to tools, then select "Boolean Operation". A menu then will pop up to give you various options of what type of action you want to take. With one object selected, click on "set" in that pop up window ( operand "A" ). Now deselect that object and select the other object then click "set" (operand "B" ).
From there you have options like "intersect" or "subtract" ect. Then click ok. Voila, beautiful isn't it? |

Re: Boolean operations? How?
i noticed it worked great on high detail models but on low detail models (like what i do for games) it put way to many vertices and polys. It was easy to make hole then add vertices and what not to get the shape i wanted.
It would be nice if it worked better on low detail models. |

Re: Boolean operations? How?
Found my problem - I didn't install the plugins.
I agree that the ops create way too many faces on any type of circle<->plane operation (like cutting a round hole into the side of a box). For now I am continuing to do things the old manual way while I research mesh reduction algorithms. |

Re: Boolean operations? How?
You may find the Surface->combine function useful for turning a number of triangles createed by the boolean op. into a single polygon.
It won't crease polygons with holes in though so if you have say a rectangle with a reound hole in it, you the minimum polys you can have here is two. Andy |

Re: Boolean operations? How?
geesh, i need to just play with AC3D ALOT more. i didn't know about the combine command. That would have really come in handy when i built my A-20 model. it had way to many polys around the engines and snapping vertices didn't help on fixing some problems.
