how do i combine 1 figure with another, so that the second conforms to the first odd

Do you mean stitching edges?
Selecting the vertices along the edge of both and creating a convex hull is one approach. Another is to snap the vertices either by distance or one at a time along the open edges. |

dear lisa
thanks for responding. 1) i am just starting out in 3d modeling, i have a little cad background. what i meant was,picture a sample cube, combine that with a simple pipe,like maybe .125 into one of the surfaces. 2) instead of typing english i should post a drawing, can one post a drawing from ac3d to the form? Try this out, it worked for me:
- if the two objects don't intersect, use Lisa's suggestion - it's the best way. Then you may retouch the new 'intermediate' object to suit your taste. - if the two objects do intersect: 1. draw a plane (or a surface anyway) where you want your interface to be, and define it as 'knife' (tools menu -> knife) 2. cut each object in two parts, the 'keep' (the outside of the final object) and the 'discard' (the rest). 3. select the 'keeps' and lock them; delete the 'discards' 4. separate the survivors by whatever distance you deem suitable. Now you can use Lisa's suggestion to stitch them together (this saves you the long and tedious work of joining the vertices of the two 'keeps'). 5. select all, vertices menu -> snap together by distance. Then object menu - > merge ; object menu again -> optimize vertices (this will smooth the resulting object) or: 1. select both objects 2. object menu -> booleans -> union This should automatically stitch your two objects together but doesn't always produce satisfactory results. |
