Default extrude along path with assembled lines

Hello,

To realize complex cables in 3D,
I have to assemble the parts of lines,
because the lines always lie in a "zero"-layer.

So, after positioning the vertices of the "first" line-part
I'm adding a second one.
After merging, optimizing, welding I thought the "new" object has
to be a (single) line again.

But, if I want to "extrude along path" now,
I'm getting the error:

extrude path: objects must have exactly one surface and no children

With ONE finished line the function works!

I'd like to have this function so often!

Why does the function finish, if I change the window?

Am I doing something wrong?

Greetings Gogo

It's not currently possible to join lines. What you'll need to do is remove all surfaces from the lines, select the vertices in the correct order and create a single surface from the vertices. Then set the surface type to line.

T select the vertices, an undocumented selection method might help here, but it can be slow. What you can do is hold shift and control, then drag over the vertices with the left mouse button down.

Thanks Andy for reply.

First, my actual working method:

placing a line with much more vertices (than I'm thinking to need) on the floor.
Afterwards, I can move them to the right position comfortably.
---------
"select the vertices in the correct order and create a single surface from the vertices."

How to create a SINGLE surface?
----------
"hold shift and control, then drag over the vertices with the left mouse button down. "

works,
but what to do afterwards, same as above?

Greetings, Gogo

PS: the mentioned "problem" is, that, if I'm using the mouse for some window-moving-zooming, the line-command is finished
-----
T select = texture on/off?

Vertex->Create-ordered-surface will make a surface from the selected vertices.

Sorry, the "T" was a typo it should have said "To".
