I've looked at the problem .obj in notepad++, and nothing leaps out at me as a cause. Don't appear to be able to upload the problem file.

Can't see if you got me email with the file. I have been having some problems with erratic email sends.

Nothing came through. Did you zip the file? That will reduce the size considerably.

Sent again to andy@ac3d.org. It's only a 14KB file so size shouldn't be an issue.
Were you aware people can't PM you as your PM limit is full. Please let me know if it still doesn't get through. My ISP has been a real problem for email unreliability recently. |

Andy, I never heard anything on this issue, so I don't know if you ever got the files. I was chasing the issue down again today and it seems it's not the .obj file that's the problem but the .mtl file. The exporting program was loading it up with loads of irrelevant materials and it looks like that fatally cooks AC3D. If I substitute a .mtl with only the relevant materials, the import works.

(I fixed the PM mailbox at the time - thanks)
I'm sorry, no files came at all. I'll PM you an alternate email. |

Thanks, but no need now I've seen the issue is not the .obj, but the .mtl. If you wanted to deal with a fatal crash, it'll be something to do with either overflow on the number of materials or some issue with the file sizes of the maps in the materials. It's a DAZ problem that their exports include all this unncessary stuff, but now I know I can easy-enough work around it. Solves a long-standing bugbear for me where I couldn't go directly from DAZ export to AC3D.
Not sure if I've raised this before, but last month I spent an acre of time trying to get a bunch of similar in the GUI but different vertex order behind the scenes files of tweaks of one model into a similar vertex order. Couldn't solve that one with AC3D. In the end, it was DAZ's Hexagon that exports in a new and specific vertex order that allowed me to align all the models enough to allow UV map transfers and other fun stuff. Cheers. |
