how to get cylindrical fuselage texture projection
ac3d seems to make the fuselage texture a flat side on projection but i noticed some xplane authors use a cylindrical projection so that the rivets dont stretch into lines at the top and bottom of the fuselage. how can i do this?

With the UV map plugin.

If you don't already have it, you can get it here:

Re: how to get cylindrical fuselage texture projection
Have a look in the Tools->TCE to see what it did. You probably want the axis setting to be X or Z in the UV Map settings for the cylinder map.

Re: how to get cylindrical fuselage texture projection
A cylinder mapping is pretty simple. Imagine putting your object inside a tube which is a rolled up picture. Then the tube shrinks and wraps the object.
Select the surfaces you are having trouble with and look at it in the TCE. You usually want to get each surface on the cylinder to have a different piece of the texture. Sometimes mapping can end up outside the main texture so you may need to adjust it so it's over the texture. Perhaps post a pic of the TCE so we can get a better idea of the problem. |

Re: how to get cylindrical fuselage texture projection
To experiment - make a cylinder and load a texture onto it. Select only the side surfaces, not the ends, and look at it in the TCE.
Try remapping with cylinder mapping, changing the axis and see what happens. |
