Applying different textures to different surfaces
Hello Everybody,
I am here again...with my seemingly unending queries... in ac3d we can apply only one material to an object. is there a way to apply two or textures to an object ? say i wanna apply different textures to different walls of a building... regards, sscac3d. |

You can actually apply one material per surface --- an object can have a different material on each surface.
For textures, however, you are limited to one texture per object. If you want different textures on different "walls" of an object, you can separate the surfaces into two different objects. i.e., select one "wall" and perform a "Surface -> Cut away object", and it puts the selected surface(s) into their own object. Hope that helps |

Way to go Dennis .... I was starting to feel I was the only one answering sscac3d's questions
An alternative way ... which I use all the time ... is to combine the two textures. So for example, if you have two wall textures A & B combine them so that top half of the new texture is texture A, and bottom half is textureB. Now apply that new texture to the walls object. Use the Texture Cor-ordinate Editor to map one wall to the top half, and the 2nd wall to the bottom half. If your orginal textures are 'seamless' you can make quite long runs of walls up/down or side by side this way griff |

If you look at the texture coordinate editor section of the manual (at least I believe that's where it is) it gives a good impression of what combined textures look like. It's very convenient when you have a complicated model and don't want to waste time loading multiple textures.
