Default Placing OBJ8 objects in X-Plane 8.xx protocols?

I must admit to a fondnessfor XP7.63 that borders on addiction.
I only recently received X-Plane 8 and have not really gotten into it yet.

I already have my Sydney Scenery made in 7.63 running in XP8.20

My question

What is the procedure for placing OBJ8 objects into XP8.xx
Any pitfalls to watch out for?

I converted two objects in the Sydney scenery to OBJ8 and just placed them in the current folder in custom scenery and they failed to appear in XP8 when I started it up.

Obviously there must be a different protocol and before anyone tells me I WILL go and read everything on Ben's site but I would dealy appreciate some hints.

It is a bit tedious but I'll try to help:
First convert the DSF file (where you want to place the objects) to text with the DSF2TEXT tool on Bens site. Then open it with a text editor and look for the lines that start with "OBJECT_DEF". Further down the file look for "OBJECT" followed by the number of the OBJECT_DEF and the lat/lon and altitude of the object placement.

The OBJECT_DEF are numbered starting from 0 although not noted on the file. Select all the OBJECT_DEF lines and copy/paste into a text editor which can display line numbers to count them. I think you can add numbers after the OBJECT_DEF by adding a space and # after the .obj

Number your first custom object with the next number available and add an OBJECT_DEF below the default ones.

Then go down and add the OBJECT (#) and placement LAT/LON ALT.

Next add the following line above the four Property lines already there to make the sim always display the object regardless of the object rendering settings:
PROPERTY sim/require_object 1/73. Where 73 is your first object to always be displayed.

Convert the text file back to DSF by dropping on the DSF2TXT tool again. These conversions may take several minutes.

Here is a post Ben made on object display priorities:

Hi Y'all,

I have object prioritization done in the development branch of X-Plane...

...by putting a property like:

sim/require_object 2/100
sim/require_object 3/80
sim/require_object 6/60

This tells X-Plane that:

- At object density levels two and higher, all .objs with index >= 100
must be visible.

- At object density levels three and higher, all .objs with index >=
80 must be visible.

- At object density levels six and higher, all .objs with index >= 60
must be visible.

If I were to add:

sim/require_objects 4/90

This would be a meaningless statement. Since at level 3 and higher 80
and up are shown, saying at 4 and higher 90 and up are shown doesn't add
new info. This is not a programming error and X-Plane won't care, it's
just meant to demonstrate the scheme.

Anyway, if you are going throuhg the laborious process of converting
files via Env2CSV and DSF2Text, make sure you put your most important
objects at the highest index numbers so you can prioritize them. In a
given setup if object N is visible, all objects higher than N are
visible. When I went to test this I discovered I had bridges and
terminals in low numbers and jetways in high numbers - exactly now what
I needed.

Also a warning about DSF2Text - you'll need to put these properties
BEFORE the sim/west sim/south sim/east and sim/north properties, due to
a bug in DSF2Text. :-(

*Cheers*

Well I just noticed you said Sydney. The Global DSF scenery has just been completed and should be available in about a week.

If you want to use your objects with v7 scenery Run Worldmaker in V7.63 to place your objects in the .env files for that area.

Ben is working on an Application to work on DSF files in a similar manner.
