Lol! You shouldn't beat yourself up that way. The first rule of good software design is that if someone can't figure out how to use it, it's not the fault of the user, it's the fault of the software.

luuckyy thoughtfully mentioned PoseRay as an add-on to that list. PoseRay is a front-end for PovRay that makes setting up scenes a lot easier, and would be a very good place to start.

Kerkythea is kind of interesting, too. It's a bit menu-heavy, but unlike a lot of the other ones it does have a full GUI.
