Default How to Change the Direction of a Translation?

Hi,

I've been working with AC3D only a couple of days. It shows great promise for animating objects created in SketchUp.

However, there seems to be a lack of documentation on how to do translations, which I finally learned means linear movement as opposed to rotations. So far, all of the tutorials I've found focus on rotations instead of translations.

Below is a brief video I made to illustrate my question. I'm trying to figure out how to change the direction that the object moves along the line. As you can see in the video, no matter which direction I create the line in, the model moves from left to right. How do I get it to switch to moving right to left?

Thanks,
Bill

Try editing the Value 0 and Value 1 entries. Start with giving the 1.00 value a negative sign.

I had tried that but it didn't work. If I'm not mistaken, those values refer to the starting and ending point for whatever dataref is chosen and shouldn't be messed with.

Someone at the X-Plane.org forums gave me the answer: simply rotate the line using the rotation tool.

Thanks anyway,
Bill

Great to know! (Still odd that the translation feature doesn't automatically determine direction of movement based on beginning and end points...)

After my post above, I discovered an easier way is to flip one axis at a time until you get the right one. Which one can be determined by trying them one at a time. If one doesn't work, back up one step and try the next axis. Someone more familiar with AC3D than I would probably know right off the bat which one to do. But trial and error works well too.
